Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Commander Deck: Planar Portal
Free pickup in Maastricht, by appointment. How it works
Prosper turns exiled cards into a second hand — and pays you to play them, too. Planar Portal is a black-red Commander Deck built around Prosper, Tome-Bound, playing cards from exile and generating Treasure tokens to build ever-larger turns.
This ready-to-play Commander Deck from Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms combines Rakdos card advantage with Treasure synergy. Prosper gives you access to an additional card each turn, while almost every card you play from exile nets you extra mana in the form of Treasure.
At the beginning of your end step, Prosper, Tome-Bound exiles the top card of your library. You may play that card until the end of your next turn. Whenever you play a card from exile, you also create a Treasure token.
Prosper, Tome-Bound
Prosper, Tome-Bound is a 1/4 legendary Tiefling Warlock with deathtouch in black and red. His two abilities work together as the engine of the deck.
Mystic Arcanum gives you temporary access to the top card of your library each turn. Pact Boon then rewards you for playing a card from exile by creating a Treasure token. This applies not only to the card Prosper himself exiles: cards played from exile via other effects can also trigger his Treasure ability.
Commander: Prosper, Tome-Bound
Alternative legendary: Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant
Strategy: Exile, Treasure & card advantage
From exile to Treasure
Planar Portal is packed with cards that give you more options outside of your regular hand. Ignite the Future, Light Up the Stage, Share the Spoils and Theater of Horrors provide you with cards that you can play from exile, making them excellent synergy pieces with Prosper.
Creatures can also provide extra cards. Etali, Primal Storm, Gonti, Lord of Luxury, Dream Pillager and Dire Fleet Daredevil give you access to cards that wouldn't normally be in your hand. Prosper then turns that extra card advantage into extra mana.
Prosper ensures that card advantage and mana reinforce one another. The more often you can play cards from exile, the more Treasure you create. That Treasure then helps you cast more spells and build increasingly longer turns.
Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant
Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant offers a second way to play Rakdos. When you attack a player, you tap one of that player's creatures and goad it. When an opponent then attacks another opponent, both you and the attacking player draw a card and lose 1 life.
This allows Karazikar to set multiplayer combat in motion and encourage opponents to attack each other. He doesn't support the exact same engine as Prosper, but he does give Planar Portal an alternative Commander without needing to change the deck's color identity.

For what type of Commander player?
Planar Portal is suited for players who enjoy stacking resources and eventually turning many small advantages into big turns. The deck plays less like a straightforward creature deck and more like an engine: exiling cards, playing them, making Treasure, and using that Treasure again.
- You like Treasure tokens and mana-engineering.
- You want to play cards from exile.
- You enjoy Rakdos: black and red.
