Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Commander Deck: Aura of Courage
Free pickup in Maastricht, by appointment. How it works
Arm your hero, stack up Auras and Equipment, and turn one creature into a deadly adventurer. Aura of Courage is a complete green-white-blue Commander deck from Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, led by Galea, Kindler of Hope.
Galea lets you look at the top card of your library and cast Aura and Equipment spells directly from the top of your deck. If you cast Equipment this way, it can be attached to a creature immediately upon entering the battlefield. This allows Aura of Courage to combine card advantage with a clear Aura, Equipment, and Voltron strategy.
A complete 100-card Commander deck featuring Galea, Kindler of Hope at the helm. Build up one or more creatures with powerful Equipment and Auras and draw extra cards from the top of your library.
Galea, Kindler of Hope
Galea, Kindler of Hope is a 4/4 Elf Knight with vigilance for four mana and serves as the engine of the deck. As long as Galea is on the battlefield, you may look at the top card of your library at any time.
Is there an Aura or Equipment card there? Then you may cast it from the top of your library. This allows you to use the top of your deck as an additional source of cards, making it less likely that you will run out of new threats or upgrades.
Furthermore, Equipment cast this way gets a trigger that allows you to, the moment it enters the battlefield, attach it directly to a creature you control. Therefore, you do not need to pay the normal equip cost for that first attachment.
Commander: Galea, Kindler of Hope
Colors: green / white / blue
Strategy: Auras, Equipment & Voltron
Deck size: 100 cards
New cards: 17 new-to-Magic Commander cards
Build your own D&D hero
Aura of Courage thematically feels almost like equipping a Dungeons & Dragons character. Instead of putting as many creatures on the table as possible, you can build up one key threat with weapons, armor, and magical Auras.
The deck contains Equipment with very diverse roles. Winged Boots provide evasion and protection, Swiftfoot Boots help keep a key creature safe, while cards like Colossus Hammer, Argentum Armor, and Belt of Giant Strength can provide massive amounts of power.
Equipment cast via Galea from the top of your library can be attached immediately upon entry. This is especially interesting for Equipment with a high equip cost: Galea helps you circumvent that first investment.
Auras keep the engine running
Equipment is only half the strategy. The deck also contains a wide selection of Auras, including Rancor, Gryff's Boon, Eel Umbra, Shielding Plax, and Angelic Gift.
Some give your creature extra power or protection, while other Auras primarily provide utility. Utopia Sprawl, Wild Growth, Fertile Ground, and Abundant Growth, for example, help you develop your mana and can also be played via Galea from your library.
Mantle of the Ancients
Mantle of the Ancients fits the strategy extremely well. When this Aura enters the battlefield, you can retrieve Auras and Equipment from your graveyard and attach them directly to the enchanted creature.
Because of this, a board wipe or destroyed creature doesn't necessarily mean that all your built-up Equipment and Auras are lost for the rest of the game.
More support for Equipment
Aura of Courage contains several well-known cards that support Equipment and Auras. Puresteel Paladin and Sram, Senior Edificer help you draw extra cards, while Masterwork of Ingenuity can copy an Equipment on the battlefield.
Catti-brie of Mithral Hall grows when she attacks based on the number of Equipment attached to her and can subsequently use those counters to deal damage. This makes her a natural additional threat within the deck.
Storvald, Frost Giant Jarl
In addition to Galea, the deck includes Storvald, Frost Giant Jarl as a second foil legendary creature. Storvald gives other creatures you control ward and can drastically change the base power and toughness of creatures during combat.
This offers a very different way to use the deck's Bant colors, while still fitting well into a strategy where you want to create one big attacking threat.
17 new Commander cards
Aura of Courage includes 17 cards that were added to Magic with this Commander release. These include Galea and Storvald, but also cards that specifically support Equipment, Auras, and multiplayer Commander.
At the same time, the deck contains strong and useful reprints such as Heroic Intervention, Puresteel Paladin, Sram, Senior Edificer, Nature's Lore, Greater Good, Rancor, Sol Ring, and Swiftfoot Boots.
Ready for Commander right out of the box
Aura of Courage is a complete preconstructed Commander deck. You get all 100 playing cards needed to start immediately, including mana ramp, card draw, removal, protection, Equipment, Auras, and 38 lands.
This makes the deck suitable for playing straight out of the box, but the clear Aura and Equipment base also makes it easy to build further with your own upgrades later on.
