Why would you only play from your hand when a whole adventure lies beyond the boundaries of your library? The Exit from Exile Commander Deck rewards you for casting and playing cards from exile — all while letting Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald gather an ever-growing pack of Wolves.

Foretell, adventure, cascade, suspend, and various exile effects temporarily send cards outside the normal play area. Faldorn turns that into a resource: every spell you cast from exile and every land that enters the battlefield under your control from exile creates a 2/2 Wolf. Playing a single card can therefore expand your own board at the same time.

Colors: ⬤ Red · ⬤ Green (Gruul)

Why choose Exit from Exile?

  • Make Wolves by playing cards: Every spell you cast from exile grants you a 2/2 green Wolf via Faldorn.
  • Lands count too: If a land enters the battlefield under your control from exile, you get a Wolf as well.
  • Faldorn creates new exile cards herself: Pay one mana, tap her, and discard a card to exile the top card of your library and be able to play it this turn.
  • Many different exile mechanics: Adventure, cascade, foretell, and impulsive draw all come together under one strategy.
  • Famous Commander cards: Jeska's Will, Etali, Primal Storm, Laelia, the Blade Reforged, Stolen Strategy, and Escape to the Wilds fit right into the plan.
  • Wolves become a win condition on their own: You don’t need to exclusively cast tokens; by using your normal engine, you build up a creature board at the same time.

The adventure starts outside your hand

Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald
Face Commander · Red / Green · Human Druid
Cast a spell from exile or have a land enter the battlefield under your control from exile and Faldorn creates a 2/2 Wolf. She herself can trade a card from your hand to temporarily send the top card of your library to exile and make it playable.
Durnan of the Yawning Portal + Passionate Archaeologist
Alternative Commanders · Creature + Background
When Durnan attacks, look at the top four cards and you can exile a creature from among them to cast later. That spell also gains undaunted. Combine him with Passionate Archaeologist and spells you cast from exile can also deal direct damage to opponents via your commander.
From exile to the battlefield
Exit from Exile clearly demonstrates that exile in Magic does not always mean a card is gone forever. Various mechanics park cards there temporarily and then give you permission to play them anyway — exactly the moment Faldorn is triggered.
New to Commander?
Exit from Exile uses multiple Magic mechanics at once. If Commander itself is still new to you, it helps to know the basics of the format first. Read our Commander guide for beginners →
