Free pickup in Maastricht, by appointment. How it works

Your opponent has a wonderful library. Captain N'ghathrod sees only loot. The Mind Flayarrrs Commander Deck descends into the darkest corners of the Underdark with Horrors, mill, and one particularly unpleasant habit: using the best cards from your opponents' graveyards for yourself.

Captain N'ghathrod gives your Horrors menace and turns every successful attack into mill. At the end of your turn, you can then put an artifact or creature that was put into an opponent's graveyard from a library that turn directly onto the battlefield under your control. The better your opponents' decks are, the more interesting your loot can become.

Why choose Mind Flayarrrs?

  • Horror typal: Captain N'ghathrod gives all your Horrors menace, making them harder to block.
  • Combat becomes mill: Every Horror that deals combat damage to a player lets that player mill as many cards as the damage dealt.
  • Steal from enemy graveyards: At the beginning of your end step, Captain N'ghathrod may take an artifact or creature that was put into an opponent's graveyard from their library that turn.
  • Built-in mill engine: Fractured Sanity, Mindcrank, Nemesis of Reason, Consuming Aberration, and other cards help fill graveyards quickly.
  • Horrors multiply on their own: With Zellix, Sanity Flayer, mill can yield extra 1/1 Horror tokens.
  • Play with other people's cards: Extract from Darkness, Memory Plunder, Psionic Ritual, and the commander itself let you use other players' resources against them.

Plunder their minds first

Captain N'ghathrod
Face Commander · Blue / Black · Horror Pirate
Your Horrors gain menace and mill opponents when they deal combat damage. During your end step, you then choose an artifact or creature from an opponent's graveyard that was put there from their library that turn — and put that permanent onto the battlefield under your control.
Zellix, Sanity Flayer + Haunted One
Alternative Commanders · Creature + Background
Zellix creates a 1/1 Horror whenever a player mills one or more creature cards and can make a player mill three cards itself. With Haunted One as a Background, you get an alternative Horror strategy from the command zone.
Mill is just the beginning here
You don't necessarily need to mill every library completely empty to profit. Every milled creature or artifact is a potential choice for N'ghathrod, and cards in graveyards make various other threats in the deck increasingly stronger.
