Why choose one color when Dominaria gives you five? The Painbow Commander Deck uses the full Magic color wheel and actually rewards you for spells that combine as many colors as possible.
Jared Carthalion leads a five-color strategy full of multicolored creatures, charms, huge finishers, and mana fixing. His own Kavu token is all colors at once, his −3 makes creatures stronger based on how many colors they have, and his ultimate pulls a multicolored card back from your graveyard — with an extra bonus when that card actually has all five colors.

Why choose Painbow?
- All five colors in one deck: White, blue, black, red, and green give you access to a huge variety of creatures, removal, ramp, and finishers.
- Multicolored spells are the real theme: Knight of New Alara, Rienne, Angel of Rebirth, Maelstrom Nexus, Mana Cannons, and several other cards reward you for playing multiple colors at the same time.
- Jared creates a five-color creature himself: His +1 creates a 3/3 Kavu with trample that has all colors — perfect material for his own −3.
- The more colors, the more counters: Jared's −3 places a number of +1/+1 counters on up to two creatures, equal to the number of colors that creature has.
- Jenson helps you actually play five colors: Every multicolored spell grants scry 1, and a spell of all colors even creates a 4/4 Angel with flying and vigilance.
- Big five-color payoff cards: Maelstrom Archangel, Chromanticore, O-Kagachi, Fusion Elemental, Primeval Spawn, and Maelstrom Nexus show why you take the trouble to gather all colors of mana.
Master the full spectrum
Jared Carthalion
Face Commander · Five-Color · Legendary Planeswalker
Jared starts with 5 loyalty and can explicitly be your commander. His +1 creates a 3/3 Kavu with trample that has all colors. With −3 you can give up to two creatures +1/+1 counters equal to the number of colors they have. His −6 brings back a multicolored card from your graveyard; if that card was all colors, you also draw a card and create two Treasures.
Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile
Featured Commander · Green / White · Five-Color Identity
Every multicolored spell you cast lets you scry 1. If that spell has all colors, you additionally create a 4/4 white Angel with flying and vigilance. For {5} and tap, Jenson can also produce {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} all at once.
Why is it called Painbow?
The deck doesn't simply want to have five colors available: it actively tries to derive an advantage from them. A five-color creature, for example, gets five +1/+1 counters from Jared's −3, while an all-colors spell lets Jenson make an Angel. The mana base is therefore not just a requirement — the colors themselves are part of your win condition.
Playstyle:
Painbow is for players who like to have access to everything Magic has to offer. You start with mana fixing and ramp, then put down increasingly powerful multicolored permanents and let cards like Jared, Knight of New Alara, and Mana Cannons benefit from all the colors on your battlefield.
Your first Commander deck?
Painbow is incredibly versatile, but five colors also mean that the mana base requires a little more attention than in a two- or three-color deck. If Commander is still new to you, our basic guide will help you with color identity, the command zone, and the rules of the format. Read Commander (EDH) explained →
