The Wasteland has changed you. The only question is whether that’s a problem. The Mutant Menace Commander Deck embraces radiation, Mutants, and everything that has become just a little bit different after two hundred years of nuclear fallout — with The Wise Mothman as a mysterious prophet looming over the battlefield.

This black-green-blue deck introduces rad counters: counters on players that cause them to mill cards while potentially costing them life. The Wise Mothman generously gives them to everyone — including yourself — and then turns every milled nonland card into opportunities to spread +1/+1 counters among your creatures. Add proliferate and counter-synergy, and your mutants become more dangerous with every dose of radiation.

Colors: ⬤ Black · ⬤ Green · ⬤ Blue  (Sultai)

Why choose Mutant Menace?

  • Rad counters as a unique Fallout mechanic: Irradiate yourself and your opponents and let the radiation affect libraries, life totals, and graveyards.
  • Mothman gets stronger from mill: When nonland cards are milled, The Wise Mothman can distribute +1/+1 counters among your creatures.
  • Proliferate strengthens both sides of the plan: Increase +1/+1 counters on your own creatures while simultaneously adding extra rad counters to irradiated opponents.
  • 41 cards were new to Magic: Of the four Fallout precons, Mutant Menace has the highest number of new-to-Magic cards.
  • Mutants from across the Wasteland: Deathclaws, Radroaches, Ghouls, Yao Guai, Super Mutants, and the Scorchbeast all share the same deck.
  • Strong counter synergy: Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Corpsejack Menace, Winding Constrictor, and Inexorable Tide bolster your growing board.

Welcome to the irradiated side of Commander

The Wise Mothman
Face Commander · Black / Green / Blue
The Wise Mothman has flying and gives each player a rad counter when it enters the battlefield or attacks. Whenever one or more nonland cards are milled, you may then put +1/+1 counters on up to X creatures, where X is the number of nonland cards milled at that time.
The Master, Transcendent
Featured Commander · Black / Green / Blue
Upon entering the battlefield, The Master gives a player two rad counters and can then bring a creature card that was milled that turn directly from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control as a 3/3 Mutant. Radiation thus literally turns into reanimation.
How do rad counters work?
At the beginning of the precombat main phase, a player mills cards equal to the number of rad counters they have. For every nonland card milled this way, that player loses 1 life and one rad counter is removed. More radiation thus means more mill — and potentially more damage.
First Commander deck?
Mutant Menace has a few more moving parts due to rad counters, proliferate, and graveyard interactions. If you are new to Commander itself, our basic guide will help you get started with the rules of the format. Read Commander (EDH) explained →
