Lord of the Rings Commander Deck: The Hosts of Mordor

Barad-dûr sees all. And by the time Sauron himself reaches the battlefield, it is usually far too late. The The Hosts of Mordor Commander Deck gathers Orcs, Wraiths, monsters and the darkest powers of Middle-earth under one banner — with Sauron, Lord of the Rings as the 9/9 centerpiece of the army.
This blue-black-red deck combines Orc Army tokens, graveyard value, reanimation and big spells. Casting Sauron alone sets a whole chain in motion: you amass Orcs 5, mill five cards and then bring a creature back from your graveyard directly onto the battlefield. Meanwhile, Saruman, Shelob, the Balrog, Lord of the Nazgûl and other horrors wait to join the armies of Mordor.

Why choose The Hosts of Mordor?
- Sauron makes an immediate, massive impact: His cast trigger amasses Orcs 5, mills five cards and returns a creature from your graveyard to the battlefield.
- A 9/9 with trample as commander: Once Sauron is on the board, he is a serious combat threat himself.
- Build your own Orc Army: Saruman, the White Hand, The Mouth of Sauron, Grishnákh, Moria Scavenger and various spells help your Army grow.
- Reanimation is part of the plan: Reanimate, Living Death, Extract from Darkness, Too Greedily, Too Deep and Sauron himself use your graveyard as a second source of threats.
- The monsters of Middle-earth: The Balrog of Moria, Shelob, Dread Weaver, Lord of the Nazgûl, Cavern-Hoard Dragon and Monstrosity of the Lake give the deck exactly the scale you expect from Mordor.
- 20 cards new to Magic: The cards designed specifically for these Commander decks are complemented by powerful reprints in full Middle-earth artwork.
One does not simply stop the Hosts of Mordor
Sauron, Lord of the Rings
Face Commander · Blue / Black / Red · Avatar Horror
Sauron is a 9/9 with trample. When you cast him, you amass Orcs 5, mill five cards, and then return a creature card from your graveyard directly to the battlefield. If an opponent's commander dies while Sauron is out, the Ring also tempts you.
Saruman, the White Hand
Traditional Foil Legend · Blue / Black / Red
Saruman gives the deck a spell-heavy alternative. When you cast a noncreature spell, you amass Orcs X, where X is the mana value of that spell. Your removal, card draw, and big sorceries therefore build an increasingly large Orc Army at the same time.
What does Amass Orcs mean?
If you don't yet have an Army, you first create a 0/0 black Orc Army creature token. Then, you put the indicated number of +1/+1 counters on it. If you already have an Army, that existing army grows even further. Many small effects can thus ultimately build one gigantic Orc horde.
First time playing Commander?
The Hosts of Mordor is spectacular, but Sauron's high mana cost, graveyard interactions, and three colors make it a bit more complex than the simplest precons. Read our Commander guide before you conquer Mordor →
