The Brothers' War Commander Deck: Urza's Iron Alliance

Urza doesn't build an army, he manufactures one. Urza's Iron Alliance is the white-blue-black Commander Deck from The Brothers' War, built around artifact creatures, tokens, and cards that grow stronger as your machine park expands.

Urza, Chief Artificer rewards you for having a wide artifact board. He costs less to cast the more artifact creatures you control, gives your artifact creatures menace, and creates a Construct token at the beginning of each end step that gets bigger for every artifact under your control.

How does Urza's Iron Alliance play?

• Build an artifact board – low-cost artifact creatures and artifact lands help you get enough permanents on the table quickly.
• Let your entire army grow – Master of Etherium, Chief of the Foundry, Steel Overseer, and Tempered Steel strengthen multiple creatures at once.
• Create increasingly large Constructs – Urza creates a Construct every end step whose power and toughness grow with the total number of artifacts you control.
• Make blocking difficult – Urza gives all your artifact creatures menace, making a wide board increasingly hard to defend against efficiently.
• Keep creating new bodies – Sai, Master Thopterist, Thopter Spy Network, Digsite Engineer, and various other cards provide extra artifact tokens.
• Esper gives you interaction – Swords to Plowshares, Despark, Vindicate, Austere Command, and Urza's Ruinous Blast, among others, give the deck ways to deal with problematic permanents and boards.

Two commanders, two different machines

Urza, Chief Artificer is the face commander and steers the deck toward a wide board full of artifact creatures. His Construct tokens grow automatically as you accumulate more artifacts, eventually forcing your opponents to fend off multiple large threats at once.

Tawnos, Solemn Survivor offers a more technical alternative route. He can copy artifact tokens and mill cards; later, he can sacrifice two artifact tokens to bring back an artifact or creature card from your graveyard as an artifact token copy. This shifts the deck more towards token-copying, graveyard-value, and sacrifice synergies.

For what type of Commander player?

Urza's Iron Alliance is well-suited for players who enjoy artifact synergy, token production, and a board that keeps scaling up. The basic plan is easy to identify — more artifacts mean more pressure — but within that strategy, there are plenty of choices regarding token engines, anthem effects, and artifact value to further customize the deck.

Furthermore, the Esper colors provide access to a large amount of existing artifact support, giving Urza's Iron Alliance a clear foundation if you want to modify the deck later.
