Where can you play MTG in Maastricht and Limburg?

Last checked and updated: September 26, 2026.

Magic is at its best at a real table, with real people. But if you are just starting out or are new to the region, the first question is often: where do you find those people?

I was born and raised in Maastricht myself. In this guide, I will help you find game nights, local groups, and shops. The focus is on Maastricht and South Limburg, with a few addresses in Central Limburg and just across the border in Belgium and Germany.

Where can you start?

These are practical starting points for a game night. The links go directly to the organizers so that you can view the schedule or registration information immediately.

Playing Magic in Maastricht: Dr. & Dr. Samosa

Address: Grote Gracht 40, Maastricht.

Dr. & Dr. Samosa is a board game café in the center of Maastricht. The organizer lists Magic nights on Fridays and also publishes separate events, including prereleases. This makes it a good starting point if you want to meet other Magic players in the city.

Check in advance which format is being played and how to register. A Commander night requires a different deck and preparation than a draft or prerelease. Start time, participation fee, and included products are listed with each specific event.

View the current events at Dr. & Dr. Samosa.

Liliana's Lounge

A special initiative is Liliana's Lounge. The organizer advertises this as a FLINTA event and explicitly mentions women and gender-non-conforming players. You can learn to play Magic or join in with your own deck.

According to the event description, no previous experience or your own deck is required to learn to play. There are Commander tables; if you want to play a different format, you can discuss that in advance. Check the current edition for the target group description, time, and registration.

Read the Liliana's Lounge description or check the calendar for the next edition.

More gaming venues in the region

Finding a Commander group in Maastricht and South Limburg

You don't have to wait for a store calendar. You can also find a pod—a group of players, usually four for Commander—via local groups to play a game together.

The local MTG game finder via WhatsApp

For games in and around Maastricht, there is the local MTG game finder. Players can use it to arrange home games or online Commander via webcam. Want to join? Send me a message for an invitation.

A concrete message makes it easier to find fellow players. Mention the date, time, number of free spots, format, and what kind of game you are looking for. Also state whether you have a location or are still looking for a host.

Only share a private address with the players you have arranged to meet. If you don't know each other yet, you can also agree to meet at a public venue first. Coordinate decks when planning: a bracket or power level only helps if you explain how your deck plays.

You can read more about this in the unwritten rules of the MTG gaming table.

Magically Gathering the South — Discord

Magically Gathering the South — MtG Zuid-Limburg is intended to connect players in the region. The previously shared invitation discord.gg/BPJnpAPfk was expired at the time of checking this guide.

Want to join? Ask me for a current invitation. An expired link does not automatically mean the community has stopped.

Facebook and online play

You can also search for “Magic the Gathering Maastricht” on Facebook. Check recent posts and ask which gaming groups are still active; an old announcement says little about this week's schedule.

If meeting in person isn't working out, Commander via webcam can be an alternative. You can read more about playing online with your own cards in our comparison of EDHPlay, SpellTable, and Convoke.

Shops and other addresses for gaming enthusiasts

In addition to the gaming venues above, there are shops and communities that might be interesting for your hobby. A TCG assortment or general game night is not automatically a fixed MTG night. Ask about the current inventory or activity during a targeted visit.

SpellArmory — Magic webshop in Maastricht

SpellArmory is my own MTG webshop, featuring sealed products, Commander decks, sleeves, and accessories. Orders can be picked up in Maastricht by appointment. Send a message in advance to arrange a time.

Looking for a deck for a specific game night? Feel free to tell me where you want to join and how much experience you have, and I can help you find a suitable start.

De Windroos — Maastricht

De Windroos is located at Minckelersstraat 14 and focuses on board games and tabletop. Their website shows Warhammer activities, among others. An interesting address if you play board games or miniatures in addition to Magic.

View the shop information for De Windroos.

Weebs 'R Us — Maastricht

Weebs 'R Us is located at Spilstraat 8 and focuses on anime, manga, merchandise, and collectibles. Feel free to combine a visit with a day out in Maastricht. For specific Magic offerings or gaming activities, it is best to inquire directly.

De Dwalende Dwerg — Beek

At Markt 17 in Beek, you will find De Dwalende Dwerg: a game store with opportunities to play games and book activities. Especially useful if you want to try out board games with a group.

View the calendar for De Dwalende Dwerg. Ask specifically about Magic if that is the goal of your visit.

MenijaCards — Heerlen

MenijaCards presents itself as a TCG shop featuring Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece, and also organizes fairs and events. For a specific Magic product or MTG game night, it is wise to inquire in advance; the current store overview does not confirm a fixed program for it.

View the store page for MenijaCards. Note that the location of a fair may differ from the shop location.

OUTPOET — Heerlen

For OUTPOET, I refer you to their current community channels. At the time of checking this guide, the official website was under maintenance and referred to Discord. I could not confirm an current fixed MTG gaming location or game night there.

Therefore, check first where and when you can join. Via the official OUTPOET website, you will find the community reference.

Het Hobbelpaardje and The Experience — Roermond

Het Hobbelpaardje is a toy and specialty game store at Schoenmakersstraat 20 in Roermond. Their website also refers to game nights and The Experience.

Do you want to play Magic there? Ask about the current program and the correct gaming address. Public information does not indicate a clear current fixed MTG night. View the information about game nights.

Cardgameshop — Hasselt

Cardgameshop Hasselt is at Demerstraat 39 and sells trading card games and related products. The chain also has Magic in their online assortment but notes that offerings may vary per branch.

Useful for a store visit; ask specifically about stock or gaming opportunities if you are coming for Magic. View the information for the branch in Hasselt.

Your first MTG game night: what to bring?

Ask first what is being played. This prevents you from showing up to a draft with only a Commander deck, or without a deck to an evening that requires one.

• For Commander: bring a complete Commander deck. A precon can be a good start; just ask if the table is suitable for an unmodified deck. See our Commander precons for beginners.
• For draft or prerelease: you build your deck during the event with the available product. Check what is included in your ticket and whether basic lands are provided. Want to know more? Read how MTG Draft works.
• For other formats: ask which format and deck rules apply. A Commander deck is, for example, not a Standard deck.
• For playing: sleeves, tokens or clear replacements, counters, and a way to track life totals are useful. Read more about protection in protecting and storing cards.
• For an organized event: ask if you need to register in advance and if the organizer uses the Magic Companion app.
• For a pleasant start: mention that you are new or are still learning your deck. Ask in advance if an explanation or a loaner deck is possible; do not automatically assume this is available everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can I come to a game night alone?

At an open game night, you can often meet other players without bringing a whole group yourself. Ask the organizer if you will be assigned to a group or if you can join a table yourself. For a private home game, arrange participation with the host in advance.

Is it free to participate?

That depends on the location and event. There may be an entrance fee, a table contribution, or a ticket price. For draft and prerelease, the product used is also factored in. Check the total amount and what is included.

Where else can I find MTG events in Limburg?

Use the official Wizards event page, which redirects to the Store & Event Locator. Combine that with the organizer's calendar and local communities: not every home game or informal café event is listed in an official locator.

Do I need to upgrade my deck first?

That doesn't have to be the case automatically. Ask if there is a suitable table for your deck and experience level. Playing a few games first helps you discover what you enjoy and which cards you might want to change.
