Oath of the Gatewatch: Booster Box
Free pickup in Maastricht, by appointment. How it works
Kozilek has returned — and for the first time, the Planeswalkers must unite to give Zendikar a fighting chance. The Oath of the Gatewatch Booster Box contains 36 boosters from the second part of the Battle for Zendikar block, featuring Eldrazi, Allies, full-art lands, and a chance at a Zendikar Expedition.
Oath of the Gatewatch also introduced something fundamental to Magic: the modern colorless mana symbol. Mechanics such as Surge, Support, and Cohort tie into the theme of working together against the Eldrazi.
Open Allies, colorless Eldrazi, full-art basic lands, and perhaps even one of the premium Zendikar Expeditions that can appear in some boosters.
The Gatewatch is formed
Oath of the Gatewatch continues Battle for Zendikar as the battle against the Eldrazi escalates further. Kozilek appears alongside Ulamog, forcing the Planeswalkers and the inhabitants of Zendikar to offer collective resistance.
36 boosters per box
15 cards per booster
1 full-art basic land per booster
Mechanics: Colorless mana, Surge, Support & Cohort
Chance of a Zendikar Expedition
Colorless mana becomes a real cost
Oath of the Gatewatch introduced the distinct colorless mana symbol. Where generic mana can be paid with any type of mana, these new costs specifically require mana that was actually produced as colorless.
Wastes also appeared as a new basic land without a basic land type, making colorless mana a structural part of deckbuilding and Limited.
Surge, Support & Cohort
The theme of working together runs straight through the mechanics. Surge can make spells cheaper or more powerful when you or a teammate has already cast a spell earlier that turn.
Support places +1/+1 counters on other creatures, while Cohort abilities allow two Allies to work together. This means that against the massive colorless Eldrazi, there is a playstyle that rewards teamwork.
Some Oath of the Gatewatch boosters may contain a premium Zendikar Expedition land. These special lands appear much more rarely than regular rares or mythics, and an Expedition is never guaranteed.
Full-art lands in every booster
Every Oath of the Gatewatch booster contains a full-art basic land. This keeps the land slot interesting for players and collectors, even when there is no Expedition in the booster.
